Replacement heifers are tomorrow’s profit earners and deserve the same management level as the milking herd. Significant daily weight gain (0.7-0.8 kg / day) may be required to ensure that heifers hit calving at 24 months.
In order to achieve these weight gains, the most important ration considerations are protein, sugar (to utilise the forage and increase dry matter intake), and a good mineral supplement.
